EHAS - Enlace Hispano-Americano de Salud

by admin — last modified 2007-04-19 18:47

The EHAS Program gives health service providers access to a series of low cost communication tools and telemedicine services, both adapted to rural areas. EHAS stands for "Enlance Hispano Americano de Salud", and could be translated as Spanish-American Health Link or Liason. The EHAS system can equip rural health centres and health outposts with voice communication and e-mail, even in areas where landlines and power lines are unavailable. EHAS further provides resources like distance training courses for medical staff, forwarding of enquiries to off-site specialists, a helping hand in accessing published health papers or advice on developing computer based epidemic surveillance systems.
EHAS was born as an initiative of the Bioengineering and Telemedicine Group (GBT) of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM together with Madrid's Ingenieros Sin Fronteras (ISF-Madrid), Today, it is backed by a number of Spanish American and European institutions working in partnership.
